Announcement against WASET Fake Conferences and Cemal Ardil family

Announcement by University of the Philippines Mindanao (Philippines)

International Conference on Agribusiness Economics and Management wrote a new note:

NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC.
18 February 2014 at 19:11 ·

While checking for online information regarding the 6th International Conference on Agribusiness Economics and Management (ICAEM2014), which is annually organized by the University of the Philippines Mindanao, the organizers came across a similarly named conference by the World Academy of Science, Engineering, and Technology (WASET): https://www.waset.org/conference/2014/04/venice/ICAEM. WASET has been listed as one of the “potential, possible, or probable predatory scholarly open-access publishers” by Scholarly Open Access blog (http://scholarlyoa.com/publishers/) and has been accused of “hijacking” legitimate conferences as a profit-making venture.

In the interest of the public and in order to protect the name, reputation, and good will of the University, the organizers would like to inform everyone that the conference organized by WASET (Venice, Italy, 14–15 April 2014) has nothing to do with the one being organized by UP Mindanao. The organizers will be coordinating with the U.P. Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (TTBDO) to apply for a trademark on the conference name.

UP Mindanao’s ICAEM2014 will be held in Davao City, the Philippines, on 2–3 September 2014, and has the theme “Agribusiness for Sustainable Development: Building Synergies and Expanding Horizons.” The conference will focus on the following industry clusters: general agribusiness, fisheries, crops, and livestock and poultry. Previously named the Agribusiness Economics Conference (ABE Con), the organizers decided to change the name of the conference in 2013 (after careful Internet search to avoid duplication ofthe name) in recognition of the expanded scope of the conference.

The CALL FOR ABSTRACTS is ongoing. For more information on the conference, kindly visit http://www.icaem2014.com/ or contact the Office of Research through email or phone (+63 82 293 1839).

Kindly forward to people in your network. Thank you very much!

WHAAAT? am working with an organisation where we give scholarships to the AWARD winners to attend conferences and one of our fellows mentioned the same today…..is it right to conclude that WASET is fake, coz we are in the process of registering her to this particular conference ICAEM2014 in Venice

Hi, Ms. Omamo. We actually had past delegates to our conference (2012) sponsored by AWARD. Ms. Sarah Mayanja (Uganda) and Ms. Christine Mukantwali (Rwanda). Unfortunately, that seems to be the case. WASET is known for taking the name of a legitimate conference and use it for their money-making purposes. Many researchers have already been victimized by this scheme. You can Google “WASET fake” to read other conference organizers complaining about this scam. Kindly inform your researchers not to go to any WASET conference.
