Beware of false scientific congresses WASET.org

Not having enough with the proliferation of countless new journals “open ( = payment )” , whose main objective is economic over the technical relevance , today I amazed to learn of the latest in “academic ” picaresque mass cloning scientific congresses.

image : Example of a (left ) Real congress and its supposed “clone” (right )

“Congress pirates”

The technique used is simple: websites with serious look for dozens of conferences are created whose names and acronyms exactly match those of other reputable international events, hoping that Google’s display when searching the unwary researcher conferences by name. almost identical to the original deadline is placed and a program presented committee whose members seem unaware or that appeared in them, as you can read in the texts I link below. What baffles me is that always seem to use a different congress city. I suppose it could claim when complaints really is another congress … and everything has been a coincidence.

Those who have some experience in a field is difficult for us WASET strain because after all … who are WASET? Did the you know? To have redirected their website in Wikipedia to take you to a namesake city and so difficult to find more information about them.

When a researcher looking for a congress, knows who the usual organizers, so we distrust seeing no known logos on the website of “pirate Congress”. But there will always be new investigators in a field that could fall on deception.

They get to do these meetings actually take place ?
That’s an interesting question , and apparently has a negative response far as I can find . In fact , I recommend reading the story of this scammed (already in 2010 !) Which transferred € 450 to an account in Dubai and then find that the web for check in Congress invariably showed him an error message . After trying to contact the organizers for weeks , eventually giving € 450 for lost … By the way : Can you imagine the ordeal that could represent justify this expense in a Spanish University ? I get sweats thinking …

Personally, I ‘ve heard this story for the message of indignation received today from the organizers of a conference :

“Many of you may have already realized that there seems to be another conference in Istanbul, in similar dates, with the same name and acronym, organized by an institution called WASET.

To our deepest regret and concern, this is a clear case of conference plagiarism. The WASET institution does not seem to be guided by scientific principles and has set up this conference where most, if not all, committee members do not even know their names are there. The text used for objectives, submissions, proceedings, special journal issue, is completely generic and equal for all WASET conferences, where they simply replace the name tag, in this case, [xxxx]. We are very sorry with this confusion and we sincerely hope this won’t hurt our conference.

We look forward to your contributions and to see you in [xxx].”

If you want to read more cases here report another case in 2013 on the ” pirating ” of Congress ICANN ( neural networks ) .

Anyway , I hope this post will serve all seeking information on WASET because something as fishy smell them , but it gives me that little more can be done to prevent this behavior as unethical by some organizations.

Just , unfortunately , to participate in a conference organized by WASET in Prague, 9 and 10 July. I am a candidate and , the second time he participated in a conference, I did not hear anything until I saw the program , I was enrolled at a conference on organic food , but the other items were not related to the topic : from medicine to geology , through topics such as music. The congress was really, but I saw that was something weird with these issues not connected. With the suspect, I made an internet search to discover the truth … it seems incredible that these criminals can keep doing those things.

Thank You. I hope one day end this fraudulent activity.
